Christine Driscoll

Meet Christine Driscoll.  She is the owner (and a coach) of Kaia Fit Lafayette, which only begins to describe her strength and zest for life.  She finds personal joy and fulfillment as a mother, a wife, and from the community of women she serves at Kaia.

Christine, thank you for being a community builder and a source of strength, both physically and internally for the women you serve.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.

A: I live in Lafayette with my partner Josh, and our two children Cia (8) and Cash (6). We have two cats and a dog.

Please tell us about your current career. Thing you love most about what you do.

A: My quote for myself is “I do what I love and I love what I do”. I’m a certified personal and group fitness trainer, and owner of Kaia FIT Lafayette. Kaia FIT specializes in group fitness training for women. I think what I love most is being surrounded by a unique group of women who have the opportunity to be true to themselves. We show up just as we are and we create a community that is stronger together. We celebrate each others successes and are always ready to pick each other up when needed. My kids have the book “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?”. Everyday I fill my bucket being a part of Kaia and members receive the same.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: Having children was the big push. I have always been drawn to learning about the body – I majored in Kinesiology at the College of William and Mary and I was a certified massage therapist. But, having kids really pushed me to figure out where I wanted to land. I started looking for a job after having Cash, and one of my first interviews was the opportunity to be a coach at Kaia.  I loved it from the start and after some time I realized I found a niche that really brings out the best in me and in other women.

Q: What are couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: Community has always been my favorite. I also love Pica’s.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

A: I moved to Lafayette in 2013 and transitioned Kaia FIT from Boulder to Lafayette in 2016.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: MP! She has such a vibrant personality, stays true to herself, gives selflessly, and has great stories to go along with her life experiences. I love spending time with her.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: I would travel to St Thomas, where I was born. Going home to be near my family seems appropriate during this social distancing time.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: My all time favorite is Home Alone. I have watched this movie with my brother so many times and now I get to experience it again with my children.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

A: To be honest with yourself. So many ‘shape shift’ their views, appearances, and more to present how they think others want to see them. The amount of energy wasted on this saddens me. We should also connect with each other. We learn, grow, and gain support. When we take the time to genuinely connect to others it gives them the confidence to be true to themselves.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: I’ve always wanted to sky dive.

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?

A: The Disco Biscuits.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

A: Coal Creek Barber. That business really held part of the small town feel I love about Lafayette.

Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?

A: I’d love to have lunch with my longest close friend Liz. She lives across the country and I’d love to have the chance to reconnect with her. She’s smart and the yin to my yang. I’d take her to Community.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: I love Lafayette Art Night Out. The community vibe, the families, music, and more.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: Expanding my knowledge base but continuing on my current path. I’ve always wanted to be a holistic nutritionist. I also want to teach others to be fitness trainers.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I’m pretty transparent so I don’t have a lot of interesting unknown experiences. Before having children, Josh and I spent two months living in Panama. We camped without running water in Cambutal on the Pacific coast. I didn’t speak Spanish, but Josh did. We made friends with the locals, drank way too much Panamanian beer, and slept under the howler monkeys in a tent. One afternoon I swam out into the ocean while Josh was surfing off in the distance. When I was swimming back to shore my timing was off and I got stuck in a set of waves. I’m comfortable in the ocean and duck diving under waves, but the set was long and the waves just kept coming. At one point I thought I wasn’t going to make it. I don’t freak out in the ocean, but I wasn’t sure I’d be able to keep up my pace and not get tangled in the mix. Right when I thought I was going to lose my fight the waves broke. I made it to shore and once I got on the beach I realized someone was watching me. He let me know he was waiting to see if I was going to need to be rescued. He knew I was pushing my luck.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: The Virgin Islands – I’m a beach snob after growing up with clear beach water and trees on the beach.

Q: If you were cast in a movie and could choose your costar, who would it be?

A: Melissa McCarthy. I’m all about comedy movies.

Q: Favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: My favorite day is February 14th – the day I became a mother. I always felt it was part of my path to have children and every year my family visits to celebrate my daughter. She’s definitely my love child. I’m not sure I have a favorite month. I grew up without the change of seasons and I love living in them now. For me seasons bring about change and growth.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: Fresh caught fish ceviche!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My entire Kaia community.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?

A: I love the smell of the mountains and the sea.

Q: If a movie was made of your life, who would you want to play you?

A: Brie Larson – strong woman!

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: Family, Comfortable, Peace.
