Meet Max White, a 2020 graduate of Fairview High School.
Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path? I will be attending Carnegie Mellon University this fall. I plan on studying mathematics.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: In terms of Louisville restaurants it is hard to go wrong with Busaba. Empire, where I have worked for the past 2 1/2 years, also has to make the list.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: Ever since I went to Denali in 2018 I have wanted to go back and spend more time in the back country. The scenery and remote feeling is unmatched.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: My favorite movie is a toss up between 2001: A Space Odyssey and Raging Bull. Twin Peaks is my favorite TV show.
Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
A: I had a lot of stress regarding my common app essay during first semester of senior year, and my LA teacher Chis Weber, walked me through his thoughts on the process. He assured me that any topic could work on an essay and to not take it too seriously. It seemed counter intuitive, but it freed up a lot of pent up stress that was not helping the essay writing process.
Q: What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: Honestly I am always trying to listen to new music, but I would have to say either: Bjork, Meshuggah, Sonic Youth, Digable Planets, or Fela Kuti.
Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
A: I would love to sit down and talk with Bjork. Her creative genius endlessly fascinates me. I would certainly have to meet her in a park, possibly the Arboretum.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: I have always enjoyed the unique Louisville downtown experience. Every single building and area has such rich history, it is incredible.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: Whichever day happens to be the first opening day for ski resorts in Colorado.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: Myself.
Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?
A: I miss all my close school acquaintances that I don’t regularly keep in touch with.
Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?
A: I would like to go on a long backpacking trip, somewhere unique. Maybe a section hike of the Pacific Crest trail.
